Instructions
  1. 1 cup of toovar dhal when cooked add 3 cups of rice
In a separate pan fry in sesame oil:
  1. 1 tsp mustard seeds 1tsp urad dhal 15 # curry leaves
  2. Add tamarind pulp made from 3 lemon size tamarind balls soaked in 1 cup of water (soak for at least 30 min)
  3. Add 1 tsp rasam powder*
  4. Boil till raw tamarind smell disappears
  5. Add 6 ripe mangoes cut into big pieces along with the skin
  6. Boil for 10 min
  7. Add to the kitcheri and mix gently not to smash mangoes.
  8. (optional: you can add drumstick and eggplant while boiling mangoes in tamarind pulp)
Rasam powder:
  1. 1 1/2 tsp coriander seeds 1/2 tsp cumin seeds 1/4 tsp black pepper 2 # red chillies Few curry leaves
  2. Dry fry and grind into powder
