  1. Cook 1 cup of mung dhal and 3 cups of rice in a separate vessel.
  2. Bitter Gourd (karela), radish, potato, green banana (plantain), green tomato,...cut in to long cubes and fry in mustard seed oil
  3. When little soft add salt—spice by pushing aside vegetables and in the middle of the cooking pan:
  4. 1 tbsp cumin ½ fennel ½ fenugreek, ½ kalonji ½ mustard seeds 2 tbsp fresh ginger cut in long cubes 2# green chili
  5. spices should not become very dark, continue frying veg.
  6. When 75% done add 2 cups of coconut milk and boil down
  7. ½ turmeric powder 1-2 tbsp mash poppy seeds (white) into paste
  8. Add paste and cook another till done
  9. add 2 tbsp panch phoran powder (1 cumin, 1 fennel, 1 fenugreek, 1 kalonji, 1 mustard)
  10. When ghee appears on the top add to rice and däl And cook for another 5 -10 min.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves.
